Highlights from Tunza 2009

How can you play your part in improving the environment? Activities from Tunza 2009 could give you a few tips.

The Tunza Conference is part of the global UN 'Seal the Deal!' campaign being spearheaded by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to galvanize political and public will for reaching a comprehensive global climate agreement at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 15) from 7 - 18 December. A ´Seal the Deal!´ debate will bring together the following high-level figures from politics and green activism:

Korean Prime Minister Han Seung-soo
Maldives Environment Minister Mohamed Aslam
Cameroon Environment Minister Hele Pierre
UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner
David de Rothschild (will sail to the Pacific Garbage Patch in a boat made of reclaimed plastic bottles)
Roz Savage (rowed across the ocean to raise green awareness)
Luo Hong (green awareness through photography).

Unite for Climate was launched during the conference. This is an online global community of children and youth working together against climate change. The campaign is supported by Google and Youtube and will soon launch a series of environmental debates on youtube.com leading up to the COP 15 conference.

The conference will also feature the Awards Ceremony for winners of the UNEP 2009 International Children's Painting Competition on the Environment.
